I was heartsick when I learned that the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation had donated millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood (PP). Today, they are saying there will be no more, at least until Planned Parenthood is no longer under government investigation. Actually, they say they are “forbidden” from sending my donations and yours to PP. Doesn’t sound very promising to me, nevertheless, SGK is taking notice and for now the transfer of millions comes to a stop.
The 324,008 abortions in the above chart has risen to 332,278, or 910.3 abortions every day for Planned Parenthood alone.
Part of the story was that SGK was donating because of Planned Parenthood’s prevention measures, including providing free mammograms. But Planned Parenthood doesn’t offer mammograms, free or otherwise – anywhere, at any facility. Their own records do, however, show a record of performing one abortion every 95 seconds in 2009, 24/7, 365 days a year.
There is optimism that SGK listened to the conservative outcry and dismay that Komen had a partnership with PP, but…the quote says nothing about that…they are simply, and only recently, ‘forbidden’ from donating…for now.
The Los Angeles Times article containing the quote also says Planned Parenthood did not use Komen funding for abortions, but if you have followed the story, you know there is no documentation to support that as fact. PP has no records to show that only private funding has been used for their abortion services. Thus the government investigation. While abortion is legal, using government funds for abortion is not legal. Perhaps SGK is “forbidden” because they also receive government funds?
As to the government forbidding any donations to PP until the investigation is over, elective abortions in Washington, D.C. cost federal taxpayers $185,000 in the two years ending April 2011. It took the new Republicans in Congress a year to stop the practice of taxpayer-funded-abortions, that most of us thought illegal at anytime. We know this only because of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documents.
There is another way to look at this: SGK, by the latest figures I can find, gave in excess of $3MILLION to PP 2004-2009. In turn, PP gave $1MILLION to re-elect Democrats in 2010.
Now before my donations begin again, I’ll be looking into how SGK spends every dollar. What percentage goes to research? We need the research. If SGK cannot teach preventative measures within the SGK foundation, use the money for research, and let others teach women to do breast exams. I can send my money elsewhere – anywhere I want. Every donor can do the same. I gave to SGK for the research. My advice, don’t give our contributions to any political party. Stay out of politics, because everyone supports breast cancer research, but many do not support taxpayer funded abortions. Thanks to Erick Erickson @ RedState

Komen for the Cure, a leader in fundraising for breast cancer research and famous worldwide for its iconic pink ribbon, said Tuesday that it was halting all partnerships with Planned Parenthood affiliates because of recently adopted criteria that forbid it from funding any organization under government investigation.
In September, Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) launched an inquiry to determine whether Planned Parenthood uses public money to fund abortions. Planned Parenthood receives federal money but cannot use it to provide abortions.Yes, the issue for me was providing the country’s largest abortion provider with funds I contributed to, but as well, it was that those funds were not used for cancer research. I want my money in a cancer laboratory. When I donated, as hubby and I routinely did for many, many years, I assumed my money was going to research.
