LONDON: British Muslims unanimously and unreservedly condemned the brutal assassination of a British soldier on a Woolwich street here by two coverts of Nigerian origin and said that their barbaric act has no basis in Islam.

Prime Minister David Cameron, soon after attending the Cobra meeting, said that the hacking to death of a British soldier was an attack on Britain. “It was also a betrayal of Islam and of the Muslim communities who give so much to our country. There is nothing in Islam that justifies this truly dreadful act. We will defeat violent extremism by standing together, by backing our police and security services and above all by challenging the poisonous narrative of extremism on which this violence feeds.”

He declared: “This country will be absolutely resolute in its stand against violent extremism and terror. We will never give in to terror — or terrorism — in any of its forms.”Prime Minister Cameron’s response came as a relief to Britain Muslims who faced barrage of criticism after 9/11 and the 7/7 terror attacks when they were asked by the then Labour prime minister to take collective responsibility for the actions of a few.

Season sale on udobuyForeign and Commonwealth Minister Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, who also attended the Cobra meeting and is understood to have updated the premier on the unanimous outrage of the Muslim communities over the Woolwich terror murder, she had been “incredibly impressed” with the way in which the British Muslim communities have so unreservedly and unitedly condemned these barbaric acts and said very clearly These are not in our name, not in the name of the faith of nearly three million people in this country.”

She praised Prime Minister David Cameron for showing statesmanship and bringing the whole country together: “There will always be individuals and groups who will try and use these moments to divide us. Let’s not forget that the terrorists’ ambition themselves was to divide and terrorise us as a nation. But as PM Cameron said we all, from all backgrounds, will stand united to defend our country.”

Jamaate Ahle Sunnah’s Allama Rabbani Afghan said: “We once again without any reservation condemn this murderous act and hope that this does not play in the hands of those who may wish to incite hatred and division amongst the wider society who wish to live in peace and harmony.”

Central Association of Sunni Muslims said, “This has nothing to do with the religion of Islam and the teachings of the Blessed Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Islam teaches humanity and love for one another, not to cause pain to another human.”

The Muslim Council of Britain said: “This attack on a member of the Armed Forces is dishonourable, and no cause justifies this murder.” In a statement sent to The News, Al-Khoei Foundation, Council of European Jamaats, Majlis Ulama Shia Europe, Muhammadi Trust and The World Federation of KSIMC said that the Holy Quran (5:32) states that whoever kills one person, it is as though he has killed all of mankind.

Reuters adds: A British soldier was hacked to death by two men shouting Islamic slogans in a south London street on Wednesday, in what the government said appeared to be a terrorist attack.

A dramatic clip filmed by an onlooker just minutes after the killing showed a man with hands covered in blood, brandishing a bloodied meat cleaver and a knife.

“We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying every day,” the black man in his 20s or 30s, wearing a wool jacket and jeans and speaking with a local accent, shouted in the footage obtained by Britain’s ITV news channel. “This British soldier is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.”

Police shot the two suspects while trying to arrest them, and the wounded men were taken into custody. No information was immediately released about the identity of the suspects, but two sources familiar with the investigation told Reuters authorities were investigating a possible link to Nigeria.
