Rossington underwent surgery following his heart attack Tuesday, his daughter Mary Elizabeth confirmed on Facebook. In 2003, he reportedly had quintuple bypass surgery to treat his heart disease.
Guitarist Gary Rossington, the last surviving original member still playing in Lynyrd Skynyrd, suffered a heart attack last Thursday. As a result, the band has canceled shows on Friday in Terre Haute, Indiana and Saturday in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Both shows will be rescheduled in 2016. The next show is scheduled for November 7th in Montgomery, Alabama.
Rossington, who has a history of heart issues, is resting at home with his family and is expected to make a full recovery. His daughter, Mary Elizabeth, says he needs to have some of his stents repaired or replaced. “Please keep him and us in your prayers as well as all the amazing medical staff that have saved his life several times now. We were very close to losing him this time and just pray that they will develop even better techniques soon to deal with heart disease.”
