Conspiracy theorists abound in Springfield, Missouri. Embattled Councilman Justin Burnett and his Burnett Brigade members, afraid that there is a plot at City Hall to make sure that he loses his seat, are now going after a big fish - Mayor Bob Stephens. According to the official Justin's Brigade Website, Southwest Missouri Family Values, Mayor Stephens is conspiring against Councilman Burnett in an attempt to not only get rid of the new Indecent Exposure Law, but also to get rid of Councilman Burnett.
Justin's Brigade is so scared that their man may lose that they have sent spies in to infiltrate Recall Justin Burnett from City Council- Springfield, Mo's Facebook page, asking questions in order to get any information that they can as to what the group is up to. Based upon one of those spies asking questions, Jessica Lawson, who is a party in the lawsuit against the City of Springfield, answer to the question caused serious panic within Justin's Brigade.
Councilman Burnett's biggest supporter, the Brigade's leader as well as the biggest pusher of the Shariah based Indecent Exposure Law, Jennifer Wilkin, wrote about her fears, claiming that they were based in fact.
The Mayor had known about the lawsuit for a long time, in fact, he has been having meetings with the group pushing to recall Justin Burnett, the same people that are behind the lawsuit and the rallies. Bon Tindle has went on and on about how available the Mayor has been for meetings and how great of a listener he is, and he confirmed the meetings publicly in the comments of one of her facebook posts.
Bon Tindle, who writes for Ye Olde Journalist, had stated that she had met with and talked to Mayor Stephens about this issue. Mayor Stephens regularly has meetings with the public at many event all over the city. Rob Huggins, a resident of Springfield, stated, "The mayor and council members have been meeting with people at the many blitzes addressing poverty. The lawsuit is something I’m aware of being discussed at those meetings."
Based on the paranoid belief that the mayor is out to get her man, Wilken goes off stating things as facts that are not facts at all but are her personal fears:
This is just not something our Mayor should be participating in, he is 1) Actively participating in the recall of another elected official and 2) He is ignoring the majority of citizens that have also attempted to contact him. I have sent 2 emails directly to the Mayor and have yet to receive a response to either, since he is “friends” on facebook with the ones trying to recall Justin Burnett, I sent him a friend request, he refuses to accept it. The Mayor and I may disagree but that is no excuse to ignore my messages and concerns. I have had the pleasure of talking with many of the council members that disagree and they’ve all been very nice and still listened to my concerns even if they disagree. That is how an elected official should act!
Wilken has made it her duty to attack anyone that has said anything against her man, as well as those she thinks are conspiring against him. Already, she is getting others to agree with her paranoid statements. WN, a member of the Brigade, added this to Wilkin's rant:
If he has lied to those that elected him, if he has been involved at any level with trying recall another elected official then he has opened himself up to any and every scrutiny. Choose your bedfellows wisely mr mayor!
It appears that, in order to protect their man, Burnett's Brigade is willing to take down other elected officials in Springfield. Maybe, Wilkin is setting up her man to be the next mayor of Springfield. That is if he survives the recall vote. It is hard to see how equal rights for women can be construed as hatred towards Councilman Burnett. However, Justin's Brigade is beginning to look a lot like the Branch Davidians religious sect, with Councilman Burnett appearing more and more like David Koresh.
